Finding an apartment can be difficult. Especially if you’ve been living on campus for most of your time in college, it can be a daunting task to have to find somewhere off-campus to live. Deciding to move off-campus is a big decision and one that requires a lot of planning, budgeting, and organizing.

If you have made the decision to go off-campus, but have no idea where to start looking or what to do, there are tons of websites out there that can be extremely helpful. To help get you started, check out these websites.

Your University’s Website

Many colleges offer programs to help students move off campus, especially if there isn’t 4-year guaranteed housing. Locate your school’s housing website, and look around to see if there is a listings page or even a page for someone to contact. Many times, university housing programs have people who you can contact to help you with finding off-campus housing.

This is probably the easiest and most interactive way of finding off-campus housing. The housing program will be able to walk you through the process and help you along the way so you don’t have to do it completely alone.

College Rentals

If you are feeling a bit more confident about the apartment approach, and want to do it without involving your university, College Rentals is a great resource for finding housing. You can use their search engine to find apartments around your university while using their advanced search option to narrow down based on a number of different factors that might affect your living experience.

They also keep a blog that is full of helpful tips and resources for college students looking to live off campus

Facebook

Many times, there will be Facebook groups that are university specific for students looking to move off-campus or students looking to find a roommate for their off-campus apartments. This can be a great way to find roommates and an off-campus apartment, and one that is contained to your university rather than something like Craigslist (which can also be a great resource).

It’s also a great way to find apartments that are super close to your university that you might not have been able to find through other avenues.

Craigslist

Craigslist is basically the broader version of what you get in private Facebook groups. Despite its reputation, Craigslist can be a great resource for finding places to live at reasonable prices. Craigslist is one of the go-to places that people post on in order to find roommates, so there will definitely be something for you if you look around on the site enough.

Just make sure you check out the person you are contacting before laying down any money and take a friend with you when you go to look at the property!
